Enshrouded: How to get Fossilized Bone

how to get fossilized bone

In Enshrouded, crafting is king. You must create and fortify your base to survive the elements and the ever-present Shroud. Fossilized Bone is a crafting resource you’ll need as you progress in the game; it’s an essential item you should get early on. You can use Fossilized Bone and Fossilized Bone Dust to craft powerful armor sets and Alchemy recipes to increase your stats temporarily. If you’re trying to find Fossilized Bone in Enshrouded, this guide will cover everything you need to know, such as where to get it and how to harvest it.

Where to Find Fossilized Bone in Enshrouded

Fossilized Bones are so big you can easily spot them from a mile away, making the process of seeking out this rare resource much easier than some others. You can visit two skeletons if you’ve been having trouble finding Fossilized Bones. You can find them by mining the skeletons in these locations:

  • West of Umber Hollow
  • West of the Nomad Highlands Ancient Spire

If you’ve unlocked the Nomad Highlands Ancient Spire before reading this guide, that’s the easiest way to get your hands on the resource. Just fast travel to the tower, glide town, and start mining. Since Fossilized Bone is a mineable resource, you’ll need a pickaxe to harvest it. Any pickaxe works, but a stronger variant will help you gather it faster.

Another location where you can get Fossilized Bones is in the Pillars of Creation. This is just north of the outpost, where you’ll find the Strange Letter for The Blacksmith’s Request mission. To reach the Pillars of Creation, scale the mountain north of the Low Meadows Ancient Spire, east of the Cinder Vault.

How to Use Fossilized Bone in Enshrouded

You can recognize a Fossilized Bone with a beige color and a rough texture. You can also distinguish it by the shape of how it’s buried in the sand with other bones from giant creatures. For most crafting recipes, Fossilized Bones in Enshrouded must be converted into Fossilized Bone Dust. You’ll need large amounts of the material to craft armor sets for the Mage and Ranger archetypes in particular. It’s also used to increase your flame altar from level 4 to 5, so it’s almost like a requirement to have it to reach some Nomad Highlands and Kindlewastes areas.

Here are the armor sets that require Fossilized Bones:

  • Magician Set
  • Rogue Set
  • Sage Set
  • Hunter Set
  • Warlock Set
  • Herbalist Set

Obviously, you’ll need more than Fossilized Bones to craft these. Other resources include materials from the desert biomes, such as Yellow Fabric and Lapis Lazuli. It’s in your best interest to build a base in this region so you’ll have somewhere to rest while acquiring the items.

Other uses of Fossilized Bone include:

  • Creating Seeds
  • Crafting Eternal Ice Bolts
  • Flame Altar upgrades

How to Get Fossilized Dust

Fossilized Bones can be grounded into dust using a Grinding Stone—one of the main crafting stations for the Alchemist in Enshrouded. You can unlock the recipe for the Grinding Stone as soon as you save the Alchemist NPC from his vault. Once you’ve built one, interact with it to open up the crafting menu. Then, select the Browse Recipes option and click on Fossilized Bone Dust. You have to place your Fossilized Bones into the grinder and leave them for a few minutes. Once enough time has passed, they’ll be converted into dust.

You’ll need Fossilized Bone Dust instead of the actual bones to make some of the armor pieces mentioned above, specifically the Hunter Hood and Rogue Set. However, it’s best not to turn your Fossilized Bones into dust just yet since you’ll need it to raise your Flame Level, This is required to gain access to the Shrouded areas of the Kindlewastes Desert. From there, you can upgrade your Flame Level further until you reach the Sun Temple Dungeons.

Fossilized Bone Dust can also be used to craft Fertilized Farm Soil through the Farmer’s crafting menu. Provided you’ve unlocked the NPC, you can utilize the Fertilized Farm Soul to increase the growing speed of your plants significantly. For example, you can use it to grow Indigo Plants in the Seedbed.

Why You Need Fossilized Bone in Enshrouded

Whether you’re looking for Fossilized Bones or Fossilized Bone Dust, both items have tons of purposes in Enshrouded, so we urge any player to take a quick trip to the desert and mine the material however they can. It’s a quintessential material to get to the late game, making it a must-have.
