Pokemon BDSP Shiny Pokemon for Sale
Trainers behold! Pokemon games more or less offer the same core experience--catch Pokemon, battle against gym leaders, and become a champion at the end of it. But what about adding some pizazz to the same old, same old by getting some Shiny Pokemon for sale? Relive the DS days with Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl with a twist!
What Are Shiny Pokemon?
Shiny Pokemon are “rare” variants of Pokemon which have a different coloration than what players would normally see for its species. These have been present since the Pokemon Gold and Silver days during the GameBoy Color era. Originally called “rare Pokemon”, fans created the terminology of “Shiny Pokemon” soon after, which refers to the sparkling sound effect and animation made at the start of the encounter with one. The standard chance of running into a Shiny Pokemon in the wild is 1 in 4096, which gives about a 0.024% percentage chance for a player to see a Shiny randomly. This is higher compared to the previous games. Before the release of Pokemon X and Y, the base chance of running into a Shiny Pokemon from Generation II to V was 1 in 8192--a 0.012% chance.
Are Shiny Pokemon Stronger Than Regular Pokemon?
One would assume that a super-rare variant would be much stronger than its normal counterparts since they’re harder to get, but in reality, that’s not true. Except for the Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal titles, Shiny Pokemon in all of the other Pokemon games are not any stronger or weaker than normal Pokemon, period. They merely bring extra flair to the cosmetic factor. Every Pokemon has a Shiny version that’s already programmed into the game’s data, however, there are some instances where some Pokemon are Shiny Locked. This means that there are certain Pokemon that can’t be Shiny when you encounter or obtain them no matter what. The Shiny Lock mechanic is usually reserved for Legendary or Mythical Pokemon, but previous titles such as Pokemon Sword/Shield have had their fair share of shiny Legendaries.
BDSP: Best Shiny Starters to Get
The biggest decision for every Trainer as they begin their journey is choosing their starter Pokemon. For the Sinnoh region, players have the choice to pick between Turtwig, Chimchar, and Piplup. But how do players know which one is the best pokemon to get in Brilliant Diamond and/or Shining Pearl?
It’s worth noting that there’s no right or wrong answer when it comes to picking a starter. It’s easy to think that, for example, Piplup is the best of the bunch because a lot of people say so, whereas hardcore Turtwig fans sing a different tune. Everything boils down to personal preference. However, they do have all their evolutions, types, and advantages that result in players liking one over the other.
For the Trainers that want to start their Pokemon journey with a bang, Piplup or Turtwig are the perfect choices when it comes to kicking Gym Leader Roark’s butt since he uses Rock-type Pokemon, making Water and Grass-type Pokemon a direct counter to his roster. While Chimchar is a viable option, players will need to evolve it first into Monferno to unlock Mach Punch which is a Fighting-type move. At the very least, Chimchar/Monferno makes up for it when Trainer head over to the second Gym where they’ll meet Gardenia who has her very own Turtwig that she uses during battle.
Despite Turtwig and Piplup’s head start, Chimchar is a better option in the long run. This is due to its final evolution, Infernape, who can learn Fire and Fighting-type moves--the best of both worlds. Plus, Infernape is also a great pick when talking about going head-to-head with the game’s Pokemon Champion after players defeat the Elite 4.
Pokemon BDSP: Shiny Hunting in the Wild
Trainers have to be dedicated if they’re thinking of doing some Shiny Hunting. Shinies can be encountered in the wild, obtained in Pokemon events, and bred through the Nursery. These days, there are a lot of ways that a Trainer can go about if they’re thinking of adding a Shiny Pokemon to their collection. The odds of getting Shiny Pokemon through basic means is quite low, more so when a player is relying on their luck of encountering a wild Shiny. However, there is a “hack” to which they can do to bump up their chances.
The game tracks the total number of Pokemon of a certain species caught/defeated by a Trainer. As this number increases, so too does the chance of encountering a Shiny version of that Pokemon. Down below is a table to which references the chance encounter of a Trainer should they catch/defeat a specific Pokemon multiple times.
Total No. Caught/Defeated | Shiny Encounter Rate Change | Odds of Encountering A Shiny |
500 | 6x | 1/683 |
200 | 4x | 1/1024 |
100 | 3x | 1/1365 |
50 | 2x | 1/2048 |
