Monster Hunter Rise Melding guide

You can get those powerful armor skills in Monster Hunter Rise in several ways. You could create decorations, forge armor, or try your luck with the melding pot to create Talismans. How you acquire Talismans and make them work always differed in MH from game to game. In Rise’s case—and by extension, Sunbreak—the primary method is through Talisman Melding. A balanced or OP Talisman isn’t required when starting out. Anything works until you reach High Rank. At that point, you’ll want to start learning about the art of Talisman Melding and the Transmog System. To make the process of understanding melding and Talismans in general, we’ll explain how you can create Talismans and even add some extra tips to farm them.

Monster Hunter Rise Talisman Guide: What Are Talismans?

Talismans are another piece of gear you can equip to add extra armor skills. Just like your armor and weapons, they’re equipment made to be worn. Talismans grant you the skill (or skills if there are multiple) embedded within them. Moreover, as their rarity increases, so do the skills they can possess. Note that Talismans can only have up to three Decoration Slots, each with varying Slot Levels.

As we’ve said before, Talismans don’t impact your build much at the start, but once you’ve sunk hundreds of hours into Monster Hunter Rise and are at the endgame phase, they become pivotal. Talismans are important not only because of the skills within them but also because of their Decoration Slots. Regardless of the rarity of the Talisman, these can have a massive impact on your build—especially if you’re looking to get specific skills for ranged weapons.

MH Rise: How to Unlock the Melding Pot

Talismans can be made using the Melding Pot, which you can access at any merchant in the game. You can visit the Guild Store, the Steelworks where Kagero is, or Oboro in Elgado. You’ll need to raise your Hub or Village Rank to meld Talismans. Once your Hub Rank is level 3 or your Village Rank is level 5, the Melding Pot becomes available to all the merchants.

As you progress in MH Rise, you’ll gain new Melding Pots to work with. Each of these pots lets you create Talismans unique to them that can help you obtain a skill of your choice. The skills available at each Melding Pot have varying chances of being attached to the Talisman you meld based on their power or rarity. That’s right—everything is RNG-based. Moreover, there’s only a 10% chance of getting a Talisman with the skill you need.

The Melding Pot has a variety of methods available for Melding, such as the following:

Melding Method

Material Points Required

Kamura Points Required

Information

How to Unlock

Reflecting Pool

10 MP per Talisman

100

You can choose from a list of skills and then create a Talisman with a chance to obtain that specific skill. The chances of getting your skill chosen are dependent on what type it is.

Reach High Rank (HR) 5 at the Kamura Village or get level 3 Hub Rank.

Haze

40 MP per Talisman

100

Works almost the same as Reflecting Pools but has more advanced skill options.

Get HR 6 Hub Progress.

Moonbow

150 MP per Talisman

100 for 1-2 Talisman(s), 200 for 3

It has different skill options than Haze and Reflecting Pool. Capable of melding a maximum of three Talismans in one Melding process.

Reach HR 7 Hub Progress.

Wisp of Mystery

150 MP per Talisman

100 points per Talisman

It can meld up to five Talismans at a time; however, the rarity and skills you’ll receive are entirely random. The Talismans can have a maximum rarity of 7.

Reach HR 7 and defeat Narwa.

Rebirth

None

500

Salvage 20 of your Talismans to create three new Talismans with Rarity 7 or lower. This is used primarily for getting rid of any unwanted Talismans.

Reach HR 7 and defeat Narwa.

Anima

200 MP per Talisman

200 points per Talisman

It functions the same as Wisp of Mystery but only uses Master Rank (MR) materials. It can meld Talismans that can have Rarity 10.

Reach Master Rank 6 in Elgado. This only applies to players who have the Sunbreak expansion

Reincarnation

None

200 points per Talisman

It functions similarly to Rebirth but only uses Rarity 8 or higher Talismans. It’s also more expensive but can create Talismans up to Rarity 10.

Reach Master Rank 6 in Elgado. This is only applicable to players who have the Sunbreak expansion

Aurora

300 MP per Talisman

200 points per Talisman

Works the same as Moonbow but has a different set of skills. This allows you to choose 1 skill that’s guaranteed to be on the Talismans; however, it can only use Master Rank materials.

Reach Master Rank 6 and defeat the Chaotic Gore Magala through the Hub Quest “Falling Into Chaos.”

Obtention Rate for Each Melding Process

Half of the melding processes we’ve shown allow you to choose what skills to “aim” for, but the only ones that guarantee them are the Aurora and Reflecting Pool. Every other process that has you choosing a skill will note how likely it’ll be on the finished product. Here are some general percentages for each melding process:

  • Reflecting Pool: 70-100%
  • Haze: 30-50%
  • Moonbow: 10-40%
  • Wisp of Mystery: RNG
  • Rebirth: RNG
  • Anima: RNG
  • Reincarnation: RNG
  • Aurora: 1 player-chosen skill is 100%, while the second skill is random

How to Get Talismans in Monster Hunter Rise

After confirming which Melting Pot you’ll use, the process will start. You’ll need to go and either complete or fail a hunt for your Melding Pot to progress. After you finish a hunt, one of your many melding processes will be completed, with another being fulfilled with each subsequent quest.

The other later melding processes are better because beyond creating higher rarity Talisman, they can generate more than one Talisman at a time. Take the Wisp of Mystery, for example; it can create five Talismans for one hunt completed.

Is it Worth Using An MP Accelerant?

There are a slew of melding mechanics Sunbreak added to the fray. Now, we have new materials to work with and the introduction of the MP Accelerant. The MP Accelerant is basically a consumable you can use when you’re at the confirmation window for a melding process. If you use the MP Accelerant, the melding process will be completed immediately, and you’ll be able to see what Talismans you’ve gotten. Should you have tons of these consumable items to spare, it’s best to use them.

Monster Hunter Rise: How to Farm Talismans Fast

If you have enough crafting materials to create Talismans, finishing quests fast is the only barrier to tackle when farming them. We recommend doing the “Roly-poly Lanterns” quest using a specific gear set to complete it quickly. You can use the following armors:

Botanist Armor

  • Chainmail Headgear S
  • Chainmail Gloves S
  • Chainmail Belt S
  • Chainmail Pants S
  • Leather Vest S

Geologist Armor

  • Leather Headgear S
  • Leather Gloves S
  • Leather Pants S

You’ll need to slot in Botany Jewel 1 or Geology Jewel 1 to all the decoration slots you have in the armor to max out both skills. Since Roly-Poly Lanterns is a level 1 Village Hub quest, it’s accessible to everyone. Simply meld your Talismans through Kagero the Merchant and pick up the quest from Hinoa. You can complete this quest and farm Talismans in the village from there.

Another trick you can do is to fail the quest. The melding will progress whether you complete or fail a hunt or mission. You don’t have to spend 15-20 minutes hunting down a monster or two if the Talismans are all you’re after.

Which Melding Process Should You Use?

You can use Haze, Moonbow, or Reflecting Pool for Low and High Rank. You can also save those materials until you unlock Wisp of Mystery. Once Wisp of Mystery becomes available, you should only use that and Rebirth to recycle your old Talismans.

When you’re “finished” with the Sunbreak expansion and unlocked Aurora, that will become your primary melding method, regardless of your current build. Then, instead of using Rebirth, you must switch to Reincarnation or Anima to turn all your unwanted Talismans into new ones.

We’re focusing on Aurora because of the skills you can get with it. Most builds in Monster Hunter Rise (and Sunbreak by default) require the inclusion of Weakness Exploit, Attack Boost, Critical Boost, and many more. This is also where you can get level 3 skills like Handicraft, which is integral if you plan to do a Greatsword build. The same goes for LBG, HBG, and Bow builds since it’s the only Melding Pot to acquire Piece Up, Ammo Up, Evade Extender, Artillery, and Spare Shot.

What Materials to Use When Melding Talismans

If you’re only playing the base game, you’ll need to farm High Rank monsters like the Narwa for their materials to use when melding. In Sunbreak’s case, there are a lot more materials available for you to use, such as Melding-exclusive materials like these:

Name

Melding Value

How to Obtain

Melding Nectar

50

Obtained as a Quest Reward in MR 1 or 2.

Melding Honey

100

Obtained as a Quest Reward in MR 3 and above.

Melding Pudding

200

Can be found by Buddies via Backroom Deals using the Argosy.
