Monster Hunter Rise Magnamalo weakness, strategies, drops

Monster Hunter Rise has numerous monsters to hunt, but one of the most iconic is the Magnamalo, the flagship monster for the base game. Known as the Barbarous Beast, Magnamalo is essentially the big climax to the story mode surrounding Kamura Village and the Rampage.

The monster feels like a large roadblock for people because the rest of the game is locked away behind his Urgent Quest. But after you take down the Magnamalo, you’ll gain access to various new materials that can be used to make rare armor and weapons. That said, the Barbarous Beast isn’t easy to take down, especially if you’re new to the Monster Hunter franchise, but don’t worry—we’ve laid out all of Magnamalo’s weaknesses, drops, and the best strategies to defeat it.

Monster Hunter Rise Magnamalo Elemental Weakness

Magnamalo is weakest to Water while somewhat being weak to Thunder. Meanwhile, ailments such as Poison don’t affect it much. You can learn more by checking out the Physiology category in the Monster guidebook, but basically, other elements besides Water do decent damage, but equipping a Waterblight weapon is best.

Magnamalo’s Resistances

Magnamalo has more strengths than weaknesses. Besides its callous body, the beast has plenty of health to spare. Add that to the fact that it has erratic movements and a giant attack range, the fight can understandably be intimidating. If you’re having trouble choosing a weapon to use before facing it, note that the Magnamalo is somewhat resistant to guns. Blunt weapons and blades like the hammer and longsword, on the other hand, are effective, so just pick whichever one of those weapons suits your playstyle best.

As for the elements, the Magnamalo is entirely resistant to Dragon, Fire, and Blast attacks. If you use a weapon infused with these elements, their elemental damage will be shrugged off entirely.

How to Counter Magnamalo’s Hellfireblight MHR

Magnamalo is unique compared to other monsters because of its Hellfireblight, which is noted by the purple flame icon above your health bar. Whenever you’re inflicted with Hellfire, it’ll explore after a short time (or even soon if you’re hit hard enough). The only way to cure Hellfireblight is by using a Deodorant. You can craft Deodorant using Sunscored Grass, a plant that can be scavenged around the game’s maps.

Hellfire can be deadly if you’re at the wrong place at the wrong time. If you’re in range of Magnamalo’s explore Hellfire gas, you’ll immediately combust and be left vulnerable for a few seconds—that’s more than enough time for the monster to one-hit you with its ol’ loopdedoo. If you’re inflicted with Hellfireblight and see the gas surrounding you, doing the Wirebug Dash is best.

Monster Hunter Rise Magnamalo Tips and Tricks

When fighting Magnamalo, things can get terrible fast if you don’t know what you’re doing. Here are some combat tips when going head-to-head with the Barbarous Beast.

  • When Magnamalo surrounds itself with Hellfire gas, most of the time, the best way to avoid it is to get near it. Use this opportunity to do some damage to its parts that are covered in Hellfire. This could make Magnamalo flinch or prevent it from powering up.
  • Take advantage of the game’s Endemic Life. You can find them scattered around in different areas. Extra Wirebugs are always a plus since they give you more dodging capabilities. Additionally, the Thunderbeetle makes monsters susceptible to stun while the Mudbeetle inflicts targets with Waterblight—an element that Magnamalo is weak to.
  • Don’t forget about Wyvern Riding! When the opportunity arises, you can ride Magnamalo around the map. Use that chance to bonk Magnamalo around the walls and terrain to deal massive damage.
  • Whenever Magnamalo’s back has flames, it’s powered up with Hellfight and can make devastating attacks that can instantly cart you. If you want to extinguish its flames, focus your attacks on one body part with flames to knock it over.
  • Magnamalo will sometimes rise into the air. Your hunter will warn you that it’s about to unleash a powerful attack. This attack can cover a considerable portion of the field with Hellfire, making it difficult to avoid. You can do Wire Dash into the air, hang for a few seconds, then do another Wirebug Dash away from Magnamalo. You can also do an emergency dive by sprinting and pressing the roll button.
