Monster Hunter Now Weapons Guide

monster hunter now weapons

Niantic is the king of augmented reality games. Responsible for titles like Pokemon Go, Monster Hunter Now is their latest release in collaboration with Capcom. As you might expect from a Monster Hunter game, Monster Hunter Now will have a variety of monsters you’d typically see from the long-running series. But this time, you’ll meet them “face-to-face.” Since you’ll face terrifying monsters, you naturally need weapons to fend them off.

Monster Hunter Now has various weapon types you can choose from. Sure, you can pick whichever you fancy, but the trick to slaying the more challenging monsters is choosing the “right weapon” against what you’re about to deal with.

Choosing the Right Weapon for You

Choosing the right weapon is akin to winning half of the battle. Conquering monsters—especially larger ones in your area—calls for serious firepower. Whenever you take down monsters, you’ll receive a random assortment of materials that you can use to create stronger armor and weapons. That way, you can hunt even more dangerous monsters besides a Jagras.

You can choose from various weapon types from the game’s arsenal. There are six weapon types in Monster Hunter Now:

  • Sword & Shield
  • Great Sword
  • Long Sword
  • Light Bowgun
  • Bow
  • Hammer

Each weapon has a different attack style. If you want to deal damage effectively to monsters and defeat them, you must choose your weapon wisely. And to keep things interesting, each weapon type has a special skill. This is akin to an ultimate ability that hits harder than your usual attacks.

Monster Hunter Now Weapons List

Sword & Shield

Sword & Shield—a classic but deadly combination that allows you to block attacks and strike monsters swiftly. It’s the perfect weapon for greenhorns since it offers the perfect blend of offense and defense. Besides being a great starting weapon, the Sword & Shield has a special skill called “Perfect Rush Combo” that can bring any monster down to its knees with powerful consecutive attacks.

Great Sword

Sometimes, to fight a big monster, you need a big sword to match it. The Great Sword lets you launch heavy-hitting attacks with a larger-than-life blade. If you have trouble slaying the bigger monsters in the game, it's the perfect melee weapon. Using the Great Sword’s special skill—” True Charged Slash”—uses up all of your stored strength to attack monsters with a powerful slash, dealing massive damage. Should you have experience playing the other Monster Hunter titles, you're probably familiar with this skill.

Long Sword

The Long Sword is the weapon for precise and speedy continuous attacks. As the battle continues, you can charge up your Spirit Gauge by attacking monsters, gradually increasing your attack damage. However, you’ll lose the Spirit Gauge if you take any damage. With the “Spirit Helm Breaker” special skill, you can jump up and do a slash attack from the sky—perfect for using against high-defense monsters such as Basarios and Gravios.

Light Bowgun

The Light Bowgun lets you stay at a safe distance while being able to unleash a barrage of bullets at monsters. That should make Barroth think twice before charging you! The bullets you’ll use will vary depending on which type of bowgun you have, so choose wisely, as picking bullets that are effective against certain monsters will make your attacks punch harder. To make things go boom, the “Wyvernblast Counter” special skill fires a single yet powerful bullet, which causes a large explosion.

Bow

Say you want to fight monsters using ranged attacks but don’t want to stray too far. The bow’s a great choice since it excels at medium-range attacks. You can charge your attacks to one of four levels, with each level unleashing different arrow types. The bow’s special skill, “Dragon Piercer,” uses all your power to release an arrow that can pierce through anything, dealing massive damage. The bow's a perfect choice if you’re looking for a semi-close combat weapon that utilizes range attacks.

Hammer

The hammer’s not the most precise weapon on this list, but who cares when you can bonk monsters? As a weapon specialized for blunt force, the hammer will leave an impression on any monster, especially if it’s bonked on the head. With its special skill—”Spinning Bludgeon”—you can continually deal damage while swimming the weapon around; it ends with an upper attack that can knock out a Rathalos.

Will Monster Hunter Now Get More Weapons In the Future?

There’s no confirmation yet, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see Capcom release more weapons in the future. We still don’t have the Insect Glaive, Hunting Horn, and Heavy Bowgun, so they’ll likely be coming to Monster Hunter Now soon.
