In Path of Exile 2, Ascendancy points can be difficult to obtain. That’s because you can only get them by completing Trials found in Acts 2 and 3. Completing your Ascendancy class is vital to reaching the endgame Atlas, but with the current difficulty of the game, it can take some time to reach your full Ascendancy. Having difficulties? Don’t worry, we’ve made this guide to show you how to get these points so you can complete your build fast and easy.
How Many Ascendancy Points Can You Get?
You can get a maximum of 8 Ascendancy points for your class. Each Trial you complete will grant you 2 points per run, either through the Trial of the Sekhemas or the Trial of Chaos. All 8 points can be farmable by doing one of these two trials multiple times, so if you find the Trial of Sekhemas too difficult, you can run the Trial of Chaos instead for your full Ascendancy build.
Clear the Trail of the Sekhemas
You can find this activity in Act 2, after defeating Balbala, the Traitor, in the Traitor’s Path map. She’ll be past the first checkpoint and is a mandatory fight. Once you defeat her, she’ll drop Balbala’s Barya, a quest item needed to unlock the Trial of Sekhemas. Speak to Zarka about the item to unlock the location.
Go to the Desert Map and click on the Trial of the Sekhemas node. Once you’re in, interact with the altar in the middle of the room and place Balbala’s Barya inside it. You’ll also be given a Relic that will add a beneficial modifier to your run, which you can place in one of the altar slots.
Once you’re in, you’ll be given a second “health bar” called Honor. Honor is lost whenever you take a hit during the Trial. If you take enough hits and reach 0 Honor, you’ll fail the trial even if you’re at full health. You can restore Honor by completing a challenge rewarding a Shrine that restores Honor.
You’ll face Rattlecage, the Earthbreaker as the final boss of the trial. Upon defeat, you’ll gain access to the treasure room with the shrine to unlock your Ascendancy class, gaining 2 points for your new Ascendancy skill tree.
Don’t worry about failing your first Trial since you can freely re-challenge it while trying for your first Ascendancy without losing the entrance coin. Note that you’ll need a new coin on subsequent runs, and, if you fail that trial, you’ll lose the coin too, meaning you'll need to get another.
Complete the Trial of Chaos
The Trial of Chaos is part of Act 3, located in the Temple of Chaos. To enter, you’ll need to first kill Xyclucian, The Chimaera, an optional boss in the Chimeral Wetlands map. The boss will drop an Ultimatum, which is this Trial’s version of the Balbala’s Barya for entering the activity.
The Trial of Chaos is much simpler, as you only need to survive with your regular health bar instead of the Trial of the Sekhemas’ Honor system. However, every time you clear a challenge, the next room will add new modifiers to the run, like more monster health, adding turrets in a room, or making monsters immune to crowd control effects.
Once you complete a room, you’re given a choice to stop the challenge now and claim an item as a reward or keep going for greater rewards. For your first run, you only need to complete 3 rooms before facing the final boss, Scourge of the Skies. Kill the boss and interact with the Ascendancy shrine for your next 2 Ascendancy class points.
