Forza Horizon 4 (FH4) is one of the most popular racing games today. It started as Microsoft’s answer to the dominant racing title at the time, Sony’s Gran Turismo series. Today, the Forza series enjoys its own dedicated fanbase. So, it’s no surprise that part of this is the wide selection of available cars for every terrain. Given the diverse tracks in Forza Horizon 4, it’s safe to say that players will choose cars according to the terrain. In this article, we’ll be looking at the Top 10 off-road cars in Forza Horizon 4.

What are the Benefits of an Off-Road Car in Forza Horizon 4?

These cars are called “off-road” for a reason: they specialize in terrains not found in an urban setting. Off-road cars often have their suspensions optimized for bumpy terrains and the occasional jumps and bumps. While off-road cars often have engines that do not go as fast as the GT or drift ones, they are mostly geared towards acceleration so that they can bounce back after going off-track.

Off-road cars also benefit from intensive testing of gears, tires, aerodynamics, and internal peripherals like the roll cages to stabilize the car. In the real world, these things determine the safety of the driver and their passengers. In Forza Horizon 4, this gives the optimum performance of the vehicle.

Top 10 Off-Road Cars in Forza Horizon 4

Note: The cars here are not officially ranked in any way. This is just based on personal opinion of what the best off-road cars are in FH4.

  • Jeep Trailcat: The classic Season 1 off-roader is the very definition of this article. While it does not have the best speed and acceleration (this can be tweaked anyway) it does excel in rough terrains. Its 75,000 CR price for the kind of thing it does is definitely worth it, making it a must-grab car.
  • Lancia Stratos HF Stradale: This classic rally car won many WRC titles during its run in the 1970s. Its aerodynamic design directly inspired the later generation of rally cars in the ’80s.
  • Ford Focus RS (2003): A modern classic along with the next two items in this category, the Ford Focus RS is among the most recognized rally and off-road cars in the world. For 30,000 CR, you get a balanced off-road vehicle.
  • Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X GSR (2008): You can’t go wrong with the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X. As the last car in the Evolution line of rally cars, the X packs a lot of punch while keeping its stylish design. Its 4WD drivetrain also ensures complete control of the vehicle in rough terrains.
  • Subaru Impreza WRX STi / Subaru Impreza WRX: The whole Subaru Impreza line in FH4 is worthy of inclusion in this article because of its near-legendary status. It is probably the most recognized car model after the Lancia Stratos, as well as having one of the most manufacturing titles won before its parent company Toyota broke the record. Its dominance in the mid 1990s through its distinctive blue color with “555” livery is a stuff of WRC lore. The 1998 Subaru Impreza 228 STi is one of the definitive ‘90s rally cars, along with the next item in this list.
  • Toyota Celica GT-Four ST205: This rally car won two straight manufacturer titles in WRC, before the Impreza stole a possible third. It is a classic off-road vehicle with a lot of power.
  • Land Rover Defender: The English off-road brand has three distinct models for its vehicles. I chose the more rugged-looking Defender on this list because of its price-to-performance ratio. It is not the fastest (around 4.5 rating) nor does it have the best acceleration (roughly around 4 rating) but it is the best as a beginner off-road vehicle.
  • Chevrolet Colorado ZR2: The ZR series of Chevrolet cars have the distinction of being high-performance vehicles. You can see this with the Corvette ZR. With the Colorado ZR, you get the best in its class: good speed and acceleration with handling and braking to boot.
  • Ford F-150 Raptor: The pickup that directly competes with the Colorado ZR, the Raptor is a good case of cost-to-performance ratio. For 63,000 CR, you get a decent off-road vehicle that does not compromise speed, acceleration, braking, and handling.
  • Ariel Nomad: An off-road car list wouldn’t be complete without a buggy. I could have chosen the Volkswagen Beetle 1107 Desert Dingo Racing Stock Bug for its iconic status, but the Ariel Nomad is the obvious choice for its better specs and good base stats.
