OSRS Wyrm Slayer Guide

OSRS Wyrm Slayer

Wyrms are Slayer creatures that you can only kill after you reach level 62 Slayer, regardless of whether you're on a Slayer task, but there are certain advantages of killing them while on a Slayer task. For example, certain items will drop more often if you're on a Slayer task, and you'll have a chance that a Shadow Wyrm will appear when you kill a Wyrm.

Wyrms also represent one of the earliest creatures you can kill to earn OSRS GP while leveling Slayer, as they have pretty generous high alch and herb drops and some more expensive uniques drops. Their guaranteed drops, Wyrm bones, are also valuable since they represent a great early source of prayer XP.

The Best Slayer Masters to Get Wyrm Tasks OSRS

The best slayer masters

If you’re looking to hunt down Wyrms, the best Slayer master to get tasks from is Konar. Besides receiving more Wyrms as your task, you are far more likely to get a Wyrm task from Konar in the first place compared to the other Slayer masters that assign them because of the weight system. It is also important to note that later on, when wanting to kill higher-level Slayer monsters, you might be better off blocking Wyrms if Konar is your go-to Slayer Master.

Another advantage is that Konar is located close to the Wyrms, and all the monsters killed on a Konar task will bring you more profits since they can drop a Brimstone key. You will also get slightly more Slayer points per task from Konar. Other Slayer masters that can assign Wyrms are:

  • Chaeldar 60-120 Wyrms
  • Nieve 80-145 Wyrms
  • Duradel 100-160 Wyrms
  • Konar 125-190 Wyrms

How to Slay Shadow Wyrm OSRS

Slay Shadow Wyrm

The Shadow Wyrm is the superior version of the Wyrm, and it has a chance of 1 in 200 to spawn after every regular Wyrm kill. Even though you can’t safespot them, the superior Wyrms are great since they can bring you one of the very valuable Slayer uniques such as the Imbued heart, Dust battlestaff, Mist battlestaff, or the eternal gem, and more regular Wyrm loot. On top of this, you’re more likely to receive a hard clue scroll from the superior Wyrm in OSRS. If you complete the elite combat achievements, you’ll get a 1 in 150 chance for a Shadow Wyrm to appear.

Even though you can’t safespot them, if you’re using range or magic to kill them, you can protect from all the damage by using the protect from magic prayer and staying away from their melee range since you will force them only to hit you with their magic attack.

OSRS Wyrm Strategy

Strategy

You can kill Wyrms using either of the attack styles, making them a great training ground for training your magic, range, or melee skills. However, because Wyrms are vulnerable to dragonbane weapons, they are often killed with melee or range and rarely with magic.

Melee Strategy for Slaying Wyrms OSRS

The best melee weapon for Wyrms is the Dragon Hunter lance, aired with an Avernic defender. Another great pick is Osmumten’s Fang, but you can also deal good damage with cheaper weapons such as the abyssal whip or the dragon scimitar. Bring your Slayer helm and best strength bonus melee gear or proselyte armour to maximize your prayer bonus and save on some prayer pots. The downside to using melee is that the Wyrms will attack you with both their melee and magic attacks, and you can only pray protect against one. You should always protect from magic when using melee gear against Wyrms.

Ranged Strategy for Slaying Wryms OSRS

The most popular method of killing Wyrms is by using range. This is because staying at a distance from the Wyrms will force them to only attack you with their magic attack, which means you can pray protect to mitigate all the damage, which translates into longer trips and more KC per hour. On top of this, by using range, you can even safespot the Wyrms on the task-only island by luring them and standing at the end of one of the corridors. One of the best range weapons against Wyrms is the Dragon Hunter Crossbow, but you can also take them on with cheaper gear such as the blowpipe, dragon crossbow, or even rune crossbow.

Inventory for Slaying Wyrms

Inventory

When killing Wyrms, always bring high alchemy runes (nature and fire runes) or an explorer’s ring to cast the high alchemy spell since many of the Wyrm drops are alcheables. Besides this, you should bring a herb sack if you have one and a seedbox if you’ve done enough Tithe Farm since they’re pretty generous regarding herbs and seed drops.

Bring combat or ranging pots and plenty of prayer pots, depending on the combat style you use to fight them. If you’re fighting them with melee, you must also bring some food. If you plan longer trips, you should bring a Bonecrusher along since it will help you gain some prayer XP without manually collecting and burying the bones.

If your defensive stats are high enough not to pray protect, bring an imbued heart to boost your magic level so you’re even less likely to get hit by their magic attack.

Best Drops for Slaying Wyrms: OSRS Wyrm Bones

Wyrms always drop Wyrm Bones, which are valuable, and you can either collect them, bury them on the spot or let the passive on your Bonecrusher give you the prayer XP. They also drop the dragon sword, dragon harpoon, dragon knife, and dragon thrownaxe at a rate of 1 in 10 thousand drops which are reduced to 1 in 2000 drops while on a Slayer task.

They represent a decent source of high alchemy items and often drop Red d’hide chaps, Earth battlestaffs, adamant and rune gear, and the Dragon dagger. There is also a good source of earth, fire blood, and soul runes, and they often drop herbs and seeds. Occasionally, they drop food, coins, runes, and adamant arrow tips, which are great for iron players.
